Jim Blake, the principal architect and owner of The Blake Group has twenty-five years of experience meeting complex architectural challenges in all phases of the project delivery process– from the conceptual sketch to the final interior design touches.
Mr. Blake has a long track record of delivering order, proportion, beauty and technical expertise to projects throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
He has worked on residential projects throughout his career while also focusing on larger commercial, industrial and transportation buildings.
For the past five years he has been working exclusively on residential work. He recently built an addition to his office and was reintroduced to the myriad details that all residential contractors must address, and the importance of the work of the architect in making the construction phase not only manageable, but enjoyable. Most of life's great challenges can be met successfully if they are served up in manageable tasks that are clearly defined. Building a new home or adding space to an existing home is a great challenge. High quality architectural services can make it an inspirational adventure.
Jim began his career as an architect just after high school in the office of the great Northwest residential architect Burr Richards, and studied with superb residential architects as an undergraduate at the University of Washington, most notably, Tom Bosworth and Wendell Lovett. There were more than a few masters of residential design teaching at Harvard during his three and a half years at the Graduate School of Design – Richard Meier, Charles Gwathmey, Michael Graves, Peter Eisenman and several others not quite so famous but equally talented.
